I was just thinking about the team meeting we had last week. The discussion about the quarterly project timelines was quite detailed. John mentioned that the vendor delivery schedule might shift by a few days, but he assured everyone it wouldn't impact the final rollout date. Sarah from the design team shared some initial mockups, and the feedback was generally positive. A few tweaks were suggested, mostly about color consistency and button placement. She said she'd have the revised versions ready by Wednesday afternoon.
On a completely different note, I tried a new recipe for pasta last night. It was a simple garlic and oil sauce with roasted cherry tomatoes and a handful of fresh basil. The key is to cook the garlic slowly so it doesn't burn and becomes fragrant. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat. Served it with some grated Parmesan cheese on top. It turned out really well, a good weeknight meal that doesn't take too long to prepare. I think next time I might add some spinach or kale right at the end to wilt into the sauce for some greens.
The weather has been unusually mild for this time of year. I usually expect more rain, but we've had a string of clear, sunny days. It's been nice for walking in the afternoons. I saw that the park downtown has finished its new walking path loop. I should make a point to go check it out this weekend if the weather holds. It might be a good spot for a picnic. I need to remember to pack a blanket and maybe a book.
Back to work topics, the new software update for the internal database is scheduled for installation over the coming weekend. The IT group sent a memo outlining the expected downtime, which should be minimal, from about 2 AM to 5 AM on Sunday. They've asked all departments to ensure any critical processes are paused or completed before that window. Our team doesn't have any overnight tasks, so it shouldn't affect us directly. Still, it's good to be aware of the schedule.
I got a letter from an old college friend the other day. We usually just send emails or text, so getting a physical letter was a surprise. She was just updating me on her family's move to a new city. Her kids are starting at a new school next month, and she said they're both excited and a little nervous. She included a photo of their new house. It has a big backyard with a couple of mature trees. It looks like a nice place. I should write back soon and maybe send a small housewarming gift.
The office coffee machine has been acting up again. It makes a gurgling sound sometimes and the coffee isn't as hot as it should be. Someone put in a maintenance request for it. In the meantime, a few of us have been bringing our own from home. I've been using a French press, which actually makes a very good cup. It's a bit more work than just pushing a button, but the flavor is better. Maybe I'll stick with it even after the machine is fixed.
I need to start planning for the upcoming conference in the fall. The call for proposals is still open for another few weeks. I have an idea for a presentation based on the data analysis project we finished last quarter. I should sketch out an outline and see if it has enough substance for a full session. Alternatively, it might work better as a shorter workshop or a poster presentation. I'll review the submission guidelines again tomorrow and make a decision.
