I think we're finally ready to get a dog. We've been talking about it for years, and we just bought a house with a big fenced yard. It feels like the right time. We're leaning towards a rescue, probably a medium-sized mix that's good with kids. We've been reading a lot about different breeds and their temperaments. Our neighbor has a golden retriever who is the sweetest thing, but we want something a bit smaller. I'm also a little nervous about the responsibility, honestly. It's a lot of work, especially the first few months. But the kids are old enough now to help out, and I think it would be really good for them to grow up with a pet. We're planning to visit the local shelter next weekend just to see who's available. I'll let you know how it goes! Any advice for first-time dog owners?

I remember you mentioned crate training worked well for your lab. I've been reading about positive reinforcement techniques and watching a lot of training videos online. It seems like consistency is the key, along with a lot of patience. We're also trying to dog-proof the house, which means picking up all the kids' toys and making sure there's nothing dangerous lying around. The previous owners left some old gardening supplies in the shed, so we need to make sure those are locked up securely. I'm both excited and terrified, to be honest. It's a huge commitment, but I think we're ready for it. We've already picked out a few names, but we want to meet the dog first to see what fits. Let me know if you have any other tips!

Thank you for being a valued Costco Wholesale member. We look forward to seeing you soon.

The tomato plants are going absolutely crazy this year. I've already harvested about twenty pounds and there are dozens more still green on the vines. I've been making sauce and salsa almost every weekend. I also tried growing bell peppers and jalapeƱos, but the peppers are taking forever to turn red. I think I planted them a bit too late. Next year I'm going to start them indoors earlier using a grow light. The basil and mint are also thriving, almost too much. The mint is trying to take over the entire herb bed. I should have planted it in a separate container like you told me. Lessons learned, I guess. I made a big batch of pesto last night and froze some of it. Do you want me to bring you a jar? I know you love homemade pesto.

I also tried my hand at pickling some of the cucumbers from the farmer's market. They turned out pretty good, but I think I used too much dill. It's a bit overpowering. I found a recipe online for spicy pickles that I want to try next. It uses habanero peppers and garlic. That sounds way more up my alley. Let me know what you think about the pesto.
