I think the main consideration when choosing between chard and kale for a sauté is how much time you want to spend prepping. Chard stems take a bit more work to trim and cook separately if you want them tender. I usually chop the stems into small dice and start them in the pan a few minutes before adding the leaves. Kale can be a bit tougher so it benefits from a longer cook time with a little liquid to help it soften. Both work well with garlic and a splash of lemon at the end. I tend to use chard more in spring and kale more in fall but that is just personal preference. If you want something that holds up well in leftovers kale is probably the better choice. Chard wilts down more and can release more liquid during cooking. Either way a good olive oil and some salt goes a long way.

Omaha Steaks — hand-selected cuts since 1917.
I ended up going with the cedar raised beds for the vegetable garden this year. The kit arrived flat packed and took about an afternoon to assemble with basic tools. I lined the inside with landscape fabric to help retain moisture and keep the soil from washing out during heavy rain. I filled them with a mix of topsoil and compost from the local nursery. So far the tomatoes and peppers are doing well. The basil has been a bit slow to take off but I think it just needs more warmth. I started some seeds indoors back in March and transferred them out after the last frost. Next year I might try starting the peppers earlier since they take a while to get going. I also put in a few cucumber plants along the back edge and they are starting to climb the trellis nicely.
